Two weeks ago I showcased my most recent collection at RAW:Boston's Reveal show. This was such a great experience, both with networking with a variety of other artists as well as a runway opportunity in general. One of my favorite parts of designing is being able to showcase my designs on the runway. The day of the show itself surprisingly went very smoothly, which was a relief considering the week leading up to the show was insanely stressful
I started this collection by making 2 swimsuits and what I've called 2 "fairy princess dresses" for the first of 2 shows I participated in this summer. After I finished that show, I got to work on the rest of this collection for my Raw showcase. In the month I had until my Raw showcase, I was able to design and create 8 more looks, one of which I wasn't able to show (along with one of the "fairy princess dresses") due to some last minute complications. In this collection, I used a lot more color in my designs than I usually do and also dabbled in swimwear design (which I had never done before). Once again, I was inspired by many of the fabrics I used while creating this collection, first buying fabric that caught my eye, and then figuring out exactly what I was going to make with it. A few of my other designer friends had worked with PVC (the colorful clear vinyl), but I had never worked with it myself, so I decided to give it a try and made some pretty cool pieces with it, in my opinion at least.
I was very much inspired by some older songs from the 1960's-1980's. My main song inspirations were "Les Fleurs" by Minnie Ripperton, "Lola" by the Kinks, and of course "Sweet Dreams" by Eurhythmics, which this collection was named after, as well as being the song I used as my runway song.
And now, I start the designing process over again for some shows I have lined up for 2017. This show was such a great experience and I loved being able to work with such a great group of models, as well as my MUA (who also modeled so bless her for being the best) and my hair stylist (who is also the best because she signed on to the show literally 1 day before the show after my other stylist fell through). Thank you all for being a part of my team and making my collection come to life on the runway, you were all amazing!
